On-page optimization involves factors like modifying the amount of keywords on the page of a website. Generally speaking, it consists of process that deals with putting keywords right where the belong so that search engines like Google can find out what the webpage is about and rank it accordingly. It sound so simple but it needs in-depth information. A webpage have different sections where the keyword should be added. For example Title, Heading, Hybertext links and Body of webpage are the section where keywords are kept.
Things have changed a lot in recent years. Many SEO experts have abused the on-page system badly by forbidden techniques. Search Engines have discounted on-page optimization than before. However, it doesn’t mean that on-page optimization have completed gone vanished. There are still SEO experts who try to fool Search Engine by showing one thing to them and another thing to visitors. These strategies are called backdoor and cloaking which have negative effects in long term.
Webpage can be optimized On-Page for ranking and it requires proper standardization techniques like putting keywords in Title of the page. The title of the page defines what the page is about so that is the reason why Search Engines try to find keywords in this section. The proper way of putting keywords in Title is by arranging them in such a way that it makes sense and the words should be without stop words.
<TITLE>On Page Optimization</TITLE>
After the Title tag, we move on Head section of the page. Now-a-days, Search Engines give priority for Heading- H1 tag, which should contain keywords. Not only H1, but other areas like H2, H3 etc are important tags where keywords must be kept carefully. However, putting keywords in these tags should be limited and never should be excessively because this can be harmful for your website. Having too many keywords in these sections could end up being penalized by Search Engine.
Meta Tags used to rule in SEO world few years back but they are not as important as they used to before because of lots of overuse. Some Search Engines like Yahoo still use it though. Meta Tags provide a short description of websites but they are not used for ranking them.
<META content=”description of website with some keywords”>
However, I wouldn’t bother putting description on this because a website has lots of pages so it is completely irrational to write Meta Descriptions for every page. Nonetheless, you should make sure it describes the website. For some Search Engine watchers who claim that Search Engine like new Microsoft search engine gives some weight on Meta tags. Anyhow, the Body is important as many Search Engines index the first paragraph of content. So make sure you write crafty sentences with keywords in first paragraph.
Image Alternate Text Tags (ALT tags) are also important factor for optimization. They sever vital when the image is part of hyperlink.
<IMG ALT=”Description of Image” SRC=”image.jpg”>
Lot of people thinks that putting too many keywords in the content will server good for ranking. This is completely untrue. In this case, you website will only get penalized if you use this technique. Using keywords and putting them in variation to form phrases is the best practice. This also applies when using anchor text linking to internal pages of website. Just keeping it within 50 or less will be best optimization techniques. The webpage should have internal link building within itself. If you have lots of pages then linking back to homepage is essential. Creating a sitemap will help Search Engine about to crawl all pages of your website.
The main core of better ranking is about content. The more quality and keyword optimized contents you have in a page, the better your page will get ranked by Search Engines. Regular updates will make your webpage to have good ranking and increase the visibility in Search Engines.
